Correspondence of the governor's office. 1937-1939.

Contains the working papers of the governor of Kansas from January 1937 to January 1939, Walter A. Huxman administration, including routine office correspondence among the various offices of state government, and subject matter relevant to the social, economic and political situation of the 1930s. The one term administration of Walter A. Huxman was mostly concerned with the depressed economic conditions in Kansas during the 1930s, the drought conditions coinciding at that time, a new sales tax (levied in the form of tokens), benefits for World War I veterans, and a new school textbook commission. Overall, Huxman worked successfully with the Republican-dominated Legislature in fulfilling his agenda. His efforts to established three irrigation districts to manage flood control and conservation, however, were defeated.
